Default Oiling green panel filter

Does anyone know how long to spray oil on these after cleaning them.
May be five seconds worth?
I just sprayed it for about that long on the (dirty) side and the other side (intake/MAF) is dry.
The instructions are pretty vague to say the least, unlike the K & N, which indicate giving the filter a pretty thorough soak.

I wouldn't spray the filter with any oil as it tends to muck up the MAF. Just give it a good clean and leave to dry before fitting.

Yes that's fine. Don't soak the filter in oil - you only need a light film and only on the non-MAF side but you should oil them otherwise they won't be filtering properly.

Also allow to dry properly after washing before applying the oil.

Then why would they be designed to be oiled?

Quite - not oiling a cotton filter is very bad advice. No oil = no filtration which is bad news for the engine and they tend to be somewhat more expensive to fix than just replacing a MAF.

So long as you don't over oil the filter and only oil the side that is not facing the MAF then K&N/Green/etc filters should not cause you trouble.

If you're not going to oil the filter then just use a paper one and replace it regularly.

You think that a cotton filter will not do its job unless oiled??

No. The oil is what traps the fine dirt particle. The cotton gauze will catch the larger particles but it is the oil that does most of the work.... thats how they're designed and why they come from the factory pre oiled.
