Dead simple , it will fit,and more importanly the E3 gives slightly more performance than the Y7 off your current car.My MY00 car is running the ecu off my previous MY99 car, and after taking it for a remap the car made 8 bhp more than my 99 car did.
If it was mapped by br developments then Bob will be able to tweak the ecu to suit the mods that you have fitted to your car.
Bearing in mind to map your Y7 may cost £600,and it wont be as good as a E3 ecu,if the price is reasonable buy it as it may only cost you £140 to have the map tweaked to your car.

E3 - red writting = early 99 car
E3 - black writting = later 99 car
Y7 - green writing = 2000 car

the ecu number is irrelavent when the car is mapped... as the rom on the ecu is altered to suit the car..

Thats what my mapper said simon, and according to the ecu tek website they favour the E3.

http://www.ecutek.com.au/ecu-tuning/...ecu-comparison

Have got 2 graphs somewhere with a car mapped on a E3 & then on a Y7 by the same mapper with identical mods. Both made 316 lb/ft.but the E3 torque curve peaked at 5000 rpm before tailing off,the Y7 peaked at 4500 rpm before dropping off more rapidly ,which is why i thought the E3 was the better of the 2.

I think as he does not have the base map off the ecu you may have to pay for the licence again . JGM is the man to ask ,as this is his bread & butter.

The ecu is basically only worth it for the license so if you're getting it for £50 then its worth it.

Take it to ANY other mapper than BR and they will have to write a map from scratch as they cant view the current map on my99/00 ecu's. You'll be looking at around £300 + vat for 2 hours mapping time. Trust me, i've spent weeks looking into this for the same reason as you. I've got a map on mine but want to use a different mapper, and I've had several quotes, all around the same price.
