What's the most bhp you can get out of a uk classic engine and most boost level

Phew, how long is a piece of string?

Early cars: will depend on the mileage, the services done, etc.
97/8 cars: nothing without either a new ecu or an ESL daughter board.
99 onwards cars: around 300 bhp. no more than 1.3 bar I'd say.

Look for a DECENT remap.

The vf22 is a laggy old thing, you would be better off with a vf24/28/30/34/35 really.
As for power output, depends how long you want your clutch/gearbox to last, but you would need to modify the car more than what you have at the moment, but a 320bhp classic is a nice drive (you would need to upgrade the brakes as the subaru 4 pots are not exactly good).

redstuff pads are rubbish on the road and not much better on a track.

Have a look at my garage and read my spec,it will give you some idea what is possible, this same set up but with an md 321 turbo gave over 400 bhp,my bhp is slighty higher than the 334 bhp stated now but havent had it dynoed yet,and as tony stated uprated brakes are essential!

As alcazar says how long is a piece of string, some uk classic engines have produced over 400 bhp on std uk internals, running a 6 speed box,and for a good period of time to.If your running a 5 speed uk box then 350+ will destroy it,depending on how hard you drive it imho.I have been running 330/326lb/ft for 18 months now and have not had to change the clutch as yet,and many uk cars running vf & td turbos are averaging over 300 bhp without probs

It can depend on the turbo you choose + mods and what your mapper deems to give a good responsive & reliable output without compromising the engine going bang, so it can be anything from 1.1 - 1.4+ bar.But heed advice and get your brakes sorted, std 4 pots struggle with a 215 bhp let alone 300bhp

I'm running an X reg 2000 with VF35, Front mount, walbro pump, sports cat and ECUtek map running 1.5 bar (21 psi). 336bhp and 300lb/ft but I'm going for a full de-cat, 3 port solenoid and map to try and get the torque figure up.

2 questions. You've littered the site with questions about getting 350bhp but what are you driving at the moment and why do you want 350bhp? You do know that bhp will only make you pull harder through the taller gears (4th/5th) for top speed whereas torque is what you feel in terms of acceleration??

I'm sure I'm runing near to the 300bhp at the min my makes got a evo 8 and he set it up to run 300 bhp so we could have a play.😜 and we where about level most the time and he got board and turned the power up to 420 and left me for dust 😥 I'm just hoping for 350 but if it's around the 330 mark I will be happy the reason for more power is i hardly drive my car and I'm planing on running at pod and track days alot more this year

If you're not planning on doing top speed runs then you want more torque.

As everyone has said, 350bhp is gearbox shreadding territory most of the time and a lot more expensive to aim for than 330.

If you're only guessing what yours is putting out (what mods are on it) then take it to Scoobyworld in Loughborough and get them to do a dyno run and health check for £65, then you'll have some idea of how good/bad it is.

A grand is all its worth based on those rear arches and the mileage. By the time you've got it back to reasonable condition you'll have spent another £500 minimum.

Put it this way, my mate bought a V reg, same colour, 80,000 miles, FSH, 17" alloys, very straight and original apart from a de-cat exhaust and panel filter for £1500 3 months ago so that one is overpriced for sure.

Tbh it's in not bad shape the arch is the worse bit but as ive been customising cars over 20yrs it's no big job for me I didn't want someone's finished car it's all about the challenge to take a poor shape car and bring it back to life that's a ture petrol head ;-) and I've now got my next challenge

I've got a 97 u.k with a vf28 turbo, 440 injectors, 4" top mount, running 1.25 bar powered by a power FC. The injectors max out and so is the air flow meter. It was a live map I don't know the BHP. The mapper think's between 290 and 310 and it's been going well for some time now.
