Default Help with oil confusion

Want to change oil & filter next week. It's the first one I've done since I got the car. My confusion is what oil to use, the book says 10W30 / 10W40 for the temps we get in this country. But some on here are using different such as 10W50. I've always gone with what the book says but people are using different, I'm a bit confused

I would stick with a decent fully synthetic oil. I recommend Millers to all and sundry it's award winning, uses cutting edge technology and it's an English company. It's a bit dearer than the run of mill stuff but then quality does cost a bit more.

So not go with semi synthetic such as this-
http://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-60215-mi...ngine-oil.aspx
The only thing with the fully synthetic it says for competition -

For your car a fully synthetic is the one to go for. The sti engine is in quite a high state of tune even in standard form. Fully synthetic oil will give more protection and operate effectively at higher engine temps.

Ok, thanks for the advice mate, I'll go with the fully synthetic.
