What oil viscosity?
I just bought a year 2000 Turbo Wagon (only a few hours ago) with 115K on the clock and booking it in for a service to be told that the TITAN SUPERSYN 5W-40 oil I bought after it was recommended by Opie is wrong according to the garage who say I need to put 15-50 or 10-60 mobil one in it?
So who is right?

No your garage is incorrect, a 5w40 is rated for your car, though with the miles a 10w50 may be more suitable if you find your car using a little bit of oil (and any garage that recommends a 10w60 on a standard/lightly modded subaru should be shot imho)

Thanks for that. Everywhere I look including the service manual CD thing I bought says 10-40W
Out of interest the car I have is year 2000 but the CD I got is from 97-98 Impreza besides the facelift bumper different will the mechanics be the same??

Thanks for that Tony.
Lots of people think that a SAE 60 is the right grade for anything with aturbo, but if you ask them to explain why, I doubt they'll be able to explain why. If the garage want to be awkward, get them to give me a call.

Tim,
I think alot of people think that turbocharged engines produce that much more heat that they need a thicker oil so it thins out, but with modern water jacket turbos, and even though they can get hot, the oil and water cool it down (or remove heat, whichever way you like to put it ) so thicker isnt always better.

You've got it, plus good quality oils are more resilient to higher temps so still provide engough lubrication, even when they get thinner. In most cars, a 10w-60 is outdated thinking.
