Default Fuel Smell Issue, with backfire :-/

Hi

Had the problem of the fuel smell in the engine bay / through the heaters on the cold mornings we have had recently, and I'm planning to call Subaru UK tomorrow for a fix.

Today I took the car out for a run and noticed there is quite alot of backfire when letting off the accelerator and also hesitation letting off the accelerator and then going back on again. My missus also noticed the whiff of petrol when accelerating hard. Does this sound like symptoms of the petrol leak issue or has it developed some other issue?

The car is a 02 STI, with forge dump valve, custom exhaust with sports cat.

Any advise on the above would be much appreciated

I'm pretty sure some bugeye scoobys were recalled a good while back due to leaking fuel rails.

Bugeye fuel leak it is - really bad when cold and then gets progressively worse over time. Somebody on here got Subaru to honor the recall recently I think otherwise it's a costly job - manifold off and new rails fitted (Blob eye spec).
