Default Pitch/gearbox mount noise transfer

Hi all,

Just fitted a Flow-Flex gearbox pitch mount to my UK Turbo (year 2000), the car was pretty quiet but now has really loud transmission noise through to the cabin...

The old std plastic one just lifted out without any probs at all, the new one was a tight'ish squeeze at the bulk-head but the smaller end that goes into bracket on the gearbox was a 'mare to get in and an extremely tight fit.

Is the noise increase and the tightness normal to aid in it's role to stop excessive movement

Cheers all,

Cheers belliott,

Was beginning to think sth had gone wrong - just that it sounds like an old Mini with a straight-cut 'box now from inside !

Sounds like a case of 'If the standard one isn't broke - leave it alone'???
Fine on a competition car where control of engine movement might be an advantage but a bit pointless on a road car? There's not that many applications on the car where exchanging the standard bushes for polyurethane has any real advantage.

+1 solid engine mounts, pitchstop, gearbox mount, proper ones that is like Beatrush and RCM modified Grp N items, make a massive difference. Especially true in 10+ old classics

Making your transmission more secure and reducing those competing forces works for me

You've sort-of answered my statement - as a replacement for tired and perished bushes, yes! Plus - those items are aimed toward competition and track based cars?

There's rawness and then there's (some would say)unesessary harshness and vibration?
I considered a 'harder' pitch mount as a way of controlling engine movement when my GT spec headers were touching the crossmember, but decided to hack the crossmember to give clearance rather than increase harshness!

Depends what you're after I guess, I like the improvements in both my 06 STi and 95 Classics they're used on track though

Cheers for the input guys

I agree with all of you !

Must admit, I wasn't expecting so much more noise - she's a daily runner rolling project so will keep it on for a few weeks or so & see how it goes.

Thanks again,
