Default Tools

Britool own Mac Tools, Dewalt and Facom, you can buy Britool, Dewalt and Facom off the internet, not seen any Mac Tools on the internet for sale first hand.

What i'm wondering for those who work in a garage, do you buy from a tool van or save the money and buy off the internet?

I'm just wondering what the warranty is like for buying off the internet, i knwo for sure a tool van is much easier to deal with warranties.

Thanks

As far as i am aware the guaranteed for life on the likes of these is only for the original owner.
I have bought loads of cheap hand tools off the internet though over the years, and then changed them on the van when there's been a problem.
Not sure if you would be able to send anything back to a manufacturer without proof of payment, but when i have been on the back of the snap-on van, on a couple of occasions i have seen a guy stop in his car, then swap stuff on the van and vanish again, so probably would also depend on the dealer himself too.

Bit cheeky though isn't it buying off the internet and then trying to replace tools on the van?

Van mans not getting his profit from selling the tools and then you use him to exchange.

Thanks

Not cheeky at all mate, he's losing nothing, they go back to the manufacturer, he is refunded for the faulty item, all are happy.
I dont buy of the internet, then go straight to the van and get a refund
I buy off the internet if it's cheap, and only return it if it's faulty, it's the manufacturer's guarantee not the van driver.

The van driver doesn't have to accept the tool does he though?

Not cheeky in the slightest , remember its snapon or mac that has given you the lifetime warranty , not the guy who has the franchise or toolvan.

Anytime ive had any broken sockets etc ive simply took them back to the van and theyve been replaced with no problems.

if its obvious that youve mistreated them then they might be reluctant to swap, and having a good relationship with the toolman helps also.

call snap on or mac etc and find out who your local rep is , give them a call and they will usually meet you on part of theyre run or route.

He does really mate, he has a franchise and it's up to him to honour the manufacturer's warranty.
As stated above, if you have blatantly abused them, for example used the wrong sized socket on a nut and obviously abused it then there may be an issue, but if genuinely failed in normal use, then there's no problem
