piston rings failure
Hi guys!I 've had a problem with my car that my oil came of..my mechanic sorts that with changing a crank shaft at the back of the engine. But what worries me is that he said that my car uses to much oil cause it makes blue smoke...i don't know if it's blue...but it smokes like a train...and has no pull nothing! It drives like it has no turbo...can't boost...nothing...it's not overheating...so i don't know what it is...car is classic wrx with 150000m on the clock.Cheers for help

Agree with above comments. BUT, do not understand the statement "I 've had a problem with my car that my oil came of..my mechanic sorts that with changing a crank shaft at the back of the engine"
Does you mechanic not know what's wrong with it?

It sounds like he means he had an oil leak problem that turned out to be a rear crank seal.
He may well have engine damage from the description, particularly piston or ring seal issues.

Well ..when i saw the oil i tow car to garage..where mechanic change the rear crank seal...but the car was running normaly apart that the oil came of...but when i took car from the garage it drives like a non turbo...i mean there is slight spool from the turbo...but it's just 10% from what it used to be...so i don't know if there's engine or turbo failure...i'm driving on td06turbo from ebay which i bought six months ago...thanks for help guys...

If you (or ur mech) think its piston rings then a compression test on each cylinder would be ideal 1st. But due to the fact they are a pain in the *** to get access to the spark plug holes to carry out such test i would have your mechanic remove the exhaust down pipe from the turbo and inspect the turbo. I have blown a turbo before and i think many ppl on here have aswell so it is definately suspect. Peace

I would remove the downpipe (from the back of the turbo) and inspect it for oil. While its off check the centre shaft in the turbo for excessive play. Your mechanic should be able to work out from there if its OK, but Id suspect its not.
If it seems OK, you need to do a compression test. If you haven't replaced your plugs recently use it as an excuse to do that. Put a new one in as you move along. If it is down on compression then I wouldn't drive it any more, not least because it will damage your new plugs! Its time for a strip & rebuild to see what's wrong.

We've got a fully rebuilt classic bottom end for sale with acl race bearings & new oil pump etc... freshly painted for £750.
Or we could have a look at rebuilding yours if you'd prefer. If its just piston rings and you dont want the bearings rebuilt then it won't be too much.
