How often did you check the oil in the vehicle ?

I have seen turbo seals fail at that mileage & also heavy wear on the oil control rings.
To be honest a dealer is more up to speed on the Boxer diesel engine, Not saying an independant cant do them I'm not sure they have all the appropriate special tools and info to work on them.

Possibly the rear Main Has given way in the engine block, but without looking at it in front of me I couldnt tell you. Best is to get it booked/(Recovered) in to your dealer & let a trained tech have a look.

+1 for the Rear main bearing failure.
It normally renders the crankcases scrap too in the process - wont be a cheap repair if the crankcases/block need replacing.

58 Plate would be one of the first models fitted with the Boxer diesel engine. it would be a 1st generation diesel its now since devoloped to 3rd generation in the latest vehicles

The engine's arnt the cheapest to be fair £9740

If you do source a second hand engine make sure you get all of the Injector numbers, You will then have to visit your local dealer to have these programmed into the ecu

Quite scary that a diesel engine at only 98k can seize
You but a diesel to last for many thousands of miles I've seen octavias with 250k on the clock still going well
I would be chasing legal action if I got it from a dealer as it can just be over 3years old ?
And not using oil ?
I love my diesel Impreza and just turned 33k and is great to drive and bought it as a long life car ,I wouldn't like a10k bill after 3/4 years

Sorry John warranty states 3 years or 60,000 miles warranty which ever comes sooner. The OP hasnt yet responded to the question I asked earlier about the oil level being checked.

Yet again relates back to what I was saying, without looking at the vehicle how can it be diagnosed correctly

it is normal by first generation of diesel boxer. as usually lubrication of fourth cylinder. Engine usually seize around 100k...my friend bought new Legacy and it lasted 120k km

I have spoken with some pro technician and he said diesel boxer from 2011>

anything under 2011 seizes around 100,000km and also engine block is deformed due substantial pressure in engine. It is revolution in diesel engines so it has got its baby illnesses ;-)
