classic backbox advice......
Hi, i have had my wrx wagon for a few months now, from what i can tell its a standard exhaust set up apart from a backbox which seems like a universal jobby, it does sound the mutts when on boost which i like....
...but the general loudness when pottering around and when starting up in a cul-de-sac at 5am is starting to get a little embarassing!.
Id like a good boxer burble and a nice noise when opened up, just not like the god of thunder has awoken when i start up in the mornings! maybe its old age kicking in early!.,
A friend has suggested i put on a standard sti box for now but have seen on here that its very quiet indeed, any advice? btw im not against changing centre sections etc depending on the advise but at the moment the money could be used on better things such as sourcing some wind deflectors to put back on (i think previous owner may of flogged them!) and rail delete etc etc.

I saw them mate but im not going to collect from High Wycombe as im in Somerset! i might pop in a Subaru dealership and see what the score is, on the basis that they wont look at me with contempt like the BMW dealership used to!

Had one on my car - sounded great, deeper note and not too loud - got mine second hand for around £150.00. The build quality and materials are superb and a life-time guarantee!

Got to say the prodrive one is great, mine is the "after" market one with the oval tailpipe WR sport option, not the round one as fitted as part or the prodrive ppp upgrade. i think the oval looks better.

i have the straight through centre, and Scorpion (same as Prodrvie) backbox, and it is perfect combo, nice rumble at idle but sounds great on full chat without being raspy

A prodrive , original scoobysport, or Haywood & Scott race box will fit your bill perfectly IMHO , as all of them are quite subtle on start up , but give a nice sound when you get your toe down. If you want something a tad more bassy then a ninja 2 fits the bill. Don't go to the main stealers unless you got a big wallet, try eBay , pistonheads, or the sale section on here. I have had all of the backboxes above and never had any complaints from neighbors or the old folks home opposite me.
