Default clicking on low forward braking???

Hello all i have a 2001 bugeye wagon which is making a clicking noise from front left when i roll forward and then brake.

It only happens at very low speeds i was thinking maybe something to do with the brake system but it only does it when rolling forward so im a bit confused could it be the diff in the gearbox on its way out its on 142000 now and needs a new clutch and other bits so dont really wanna spend extra cash on that if the gearbox needs changing any help is much appreciated

Have you got the stainless steel shims in the brake pad guides ? If they arnt present , maybe the pads are moving a bit and clicking when brakes are applied.

Take the pads out, clean everything up and apply some copper grease, and refit, might be a cheap fix.

I had a noise when slowly braking and turned out I was missing the retaining metal clip thingy that slides under the two pins that go through pads at the top and bottom of the caliper which puts tension on the pads to stop them moving around.

Was proper driving me mad trying to find what it was and turned out to be something so simple.

Had the same on my classic, as others have said it was the brake pad retainer type thing. It'll be worth taking them out and making sure they're ok
