Hiya there
I have a 98 ej20 turbo engine complete with HG gone i was wondering when a head gasket goes can it or does it affect the water pump ??
also i know head gasket problems can couse the piston rings to go how is the best way of checking the rings... should i put oil on the pistons, to see if the oil disapears??
is there any other damage to the block in a course of a HG Failer ?
Many Thanks
Dean

You need a full strip & rebuild. If you do just the head gaskets the big ends usually go not long after. Do it right first time it's cheaper. If sending it to a respected specialist it will cost about £1500 depending on the condition of everything. Might be worth going forged while you're at it.
