Default Turbo help

Hi, the car i have is a "1999" uk turbo impreza 2000.
the problem i have is that in 1st and 2nd the turbo seems fine but in 3rd its as if the turbo cuts out around about 4500rpm to 5000rpm, then cuts back in.
any ideas will be a great help,
Cheers

Your turbo if it is std fitment is a td04,which offers good low down grunt as it is quite a small turbo,so It loses its efficiency anything after 5000 5500 rpm.Have you done the basic checks since you had the car ? ie: plugs, filters maf sensor, lambda sensor, coil packs ,etc. Also worth connecting the 2 black plugs under the steering column to see if your check engine light flashes up some error codes.

Does it cut out quite violently or just stop boosting?

I only ask because mine felt jolty when the boost cut out, I went through checking all of the usual things (solenoid, coil packs, spark plugs, maf etc) and after a while it rectified itself. I reckon it was the bloke before me using shopping fuel in it, because after a month or so of using only tesco momentum or bp ultimate it ran fine. I think the 95 Ron fuel (the stuff with twigs in it) had fudged with the ecu. Have had it running with no problems now for a few months. So it might be worth checking out

Bp ultimate is not the best fuel you should use in a impreza.IMHO it is always worth putting the best fuel you have available to you ie ; shell or tesco 99
