Lightweight flywheel, how light can i go?
Hey guys, running an STi 8 lump in a little project of mine weighing in arouind 600KG so i'm thinking it might like a lighter flywheel but i have heard that you can go too light? what would be a good weight in a car weighing around 600KG?
Many thanks in advance.
Cheers Ian.

I'd go for around 4.4kg ish, that's close to what most exedy flywheels are, will feel the benefit.
Out of interest what car is the engine going in? A kit car of sorts I presume with just rwd?

You will find it'll alter idle characteristics slightly.
It won't change bhp or torque.
If you're thinking of going drag racing don't do it, as all you'll get is a tendency to fluff the starts by bogging down.

No remap required unless you idle is perilously low - I dropped an exedy into mine with a new clutch and no remap needed - I have subsequently had the idle tweaked due to a stalling issue but it ran for 6-months with the flywheel with no issues.
Torque and power should stay the same
