Default ECU advice.

Just looking for some advice.

A pal owns a 99 UK turbo and wants to get it mapped. For a first time map he'd be looking at circa £500 I'm guessing as he would need a license etc.

Question is-
Could he purchase an ECU from another car that had already been mapped at some point, fit that into his car and have it tweaked to suit his mods ?

Surely this is a much cheaper option....

Ecu circa £100
Map tweak circa £150

Also, am I right in saying that whoever mapped it originally must be used for further tweaks etc

It would cost more than £150 as it wouldn't be a tweak, as it's a different car. Would still be cheaper then £500 in total though

I'm doing the same to my car very soon and trying to organise a group mapping day using Bob Rawle

PM if interested

Surely with these prices it's getting towards where an Apexi PFC is the better option.

Apexi or SimTek will be good option or ESL Daughter board which will/can map your mapper(Paul@Zen Performance) and i'm sure Simon@JGM,Paul@Zen or Duncan@RaceDynamix are dealers of ESL

ESL is good option, plus is mafless and can have 2 fuel maps

What's the going rate for ESL Jura ?

Sounds like a better option than Apexi and ECU Tek.

I think price is very similar to the EcuTek around £500

https://www.scoobynet.com/trader-ann...9-inc-vat.html

Matty i would recommend fit this with other mods, will be best in longer run, plus tweak are not for free

Depends on your friend and really from this i would go and decide, but for best prices please contact here mappers and you will see what prices

To be honest Jura he's trying to find the cheapest option. We are not going mad with his car but just making it breath a little better and upping the boost slightly.
From what your saying then I think ESL is a better option than TEK as it offers more for similar money.
I suppose the only other option that could be cheaper would be if an Apexi came up dirt cheap or if I banged my head really hard and gave him my Motec...lol.

Matt sometimes you will find for good price Apexi, but you must think you will need mapped this ECU and price for mapping is from £200

Your MoTec,which MoTec you are running M48 or M800?

You are thinking to upgrade your ECU?

He's not in a major rush so think we maybe keep thinking and get a few prices.

I'm currently using a Motec M48pro with every option enabled. Great ECU and does everything I need so not really looking to upgrade, I'd go Syvecs if I was gonna change or maybe a new Motec.

Best is sometimes wait, but if he is not rush, will be good too

M48pro is good ECU,but enabling all thing is not cheapest option if you are comparing with Syvecs

New MoTec not sure if i would go,price for those is killer,if i'm thinking about the M800.

Syvecs is great ECU,nothing more, running this ECU and we are happy

Yea I agree, syvecs is better value for money I suppose compared to Motec but if money was no object which way would you go, I'm guessing Motec.

Matty there is a zen performance mapped ecu in ther for sale section for 150.If your mate buys this and gets info on the car it was mapped to,then he should only have to pay for a map tweak from Zen which should be between £120 - £180.

Am I missing something here, I thought ESL was for pre 99 cars and ECUTEK was for post 99 cars?

Can you O/S map a 1999 ECU? Would be cheaper than ECU tek as no licence to pay.

Yes matty a straight forward plug and play .It is worth asking the question who mapped the ecu and what mods were fitted,as this can be quite expensive if another map has to start from scratch with a new base map opposed to a map tweak from the previous mapper.
