Default Exhaust gas temperature sensor bypass?

evening all!
We got the new EJ20 lump into my friends classic rally car.. along with various new bits/bobs.
When fitting it we noticed the replacement lump didn't have an exhaust temp sensor in the up pipe.. We spoke to a local "specialist" who confirmed these were not present on the earlier engines (the one we removed being a later lump that been fitted previously) and that it can be left off and the wiring tied up out of the way.
BUT.. to me that doesn't sound right.. As the dash is showing the "exhaust temp warning" light etc...
I've read a few threads and there seems to be a way around using a resistor? has anyone done it? in which case what do we need?
cheers!
jim

You need a 2k2 1/2 watt resistor pushed in the egt wiring plug socket on the drivers suspension turret.
