No spark on front 2 pots, please help guys.
I'm having a nightmare with my wifes Impreza Sport 97 non turbo. It has no spark on the front 2 cylinders. I've checked the following..
Plugs, Leads, Coil pack, crank sensor, cam sensor, air leaks, i've checked for breakages in the wires to the coil but cant see anything obvious, checked timing marks, all ok. Fault codes are showing nothing when you connect the plugs together, theres no OBD 2 connection so cant check that. Has anyone else got any ideas please as i'm getting close to giving up.

I started by using a spare spark plug and removing the leads one by one and checking that way, but after that showed i was not sparking on the front 2, i then removed the plugs one by one and turning the engine over. Same result, spark on rear 2 but nothing on front 2. Then swapped all the leads around so each one was tested for spark and they are fine. Tried my Coil pack on another car and it worked fine, tried his on my car and back to no spark. So Coil is ruled out. Put new plugs in and checked them all for spark, they good until they go in front pots then nothing.

Its there. This ignition system is known as wasted spark simply because it sparks both banks together even though only one cylinder needs spark. The "amp" or whichever you prefer to call it is located exactly where I told you. If you prefer to think me a fool I can help you no further.

The amp will either by on the drivers side strut tower or close by, or on the actual bulkhead below the intercooler
Could be a simple wiring break too, although that's going to be even harder to find.

Thank you for your help guys. The problem is now solved and it was the coil igniter. It was located on the firewall behind the resonator. Or intercooler for a turbo version. Changed it and hey presto. Sorted. Thanks again for all your help.
