Was the original a cat pipe & you put on a decat? First you need to check the coolant level.

Why did you change the up pipe? Have you lost coolant, is the level OK.

On my bugeye wrx.

Prior to decat.

The EGT sensor reading was approx 660C

After the full decat (3 inch exhaust tbe) which included the up pipe.

The reading is now 890c+

However it should be noted that my wrx was remapped and runs higher boost.

I did not at any time see differences in the watertemp reading. Note the OEM water temp gauge does not show minimal water temp differences.

For the unit to climb close to red, it means the Water temp is higher than 106 C. This is cause for concern and I would not drive the car until to get a proper diagnosis.

The bug wrx did not blow it headgasket as easily as the newer cars. but still better be wise and get it sorted else you could be looking at a big bill.

Also simple issues could be causing this. Air lock in coolant passages. Failing rad cap. collapsed hose. Check the water pipe to the turbo and the one under the header tank, common failure on these cars. They get a pin ***** leakage from age and lose pressure.

You have to understand decatting = more heat radiating. However your car should not be over heating.

Well thank you so much it seems the header tank is leaking and sorted niw thank you.. One thing i noticed after taking the car for a blast is when i return there is like a oily leak which i thought was water but has a texture to it ..its running down the nearside of the rad .. Ive notived theres a little ally block with a little glass inspection view in it and uts in i think the aircon pipe and something is trickling out from there more so under boost when driving gently its ok ..does the boost affect this ?
