Default Max boost using a boost controller on a stock STI V7

Hi,

If the car is fully stock, what is the max (safe) boost the stock STI v7 can be set to?

Also, would the brand really matter if you are buying a boost controller?

I mean not the unbranded stuff, but still a decent quality brand. Would it matter if I get a HDi boost controller instead of a HKS ??

Why's that? The car is fully stock so why the re-map? Would it not be better to add mods then get a remap?

I had a look at the prices for the Re-map in my area (Auckland, NZ) and they go around 500-600 bucks. Too expensive for me to be honest. I am keen to chuck the map on the ECU myself if someone has a custom map already for stock bug eye.

500-600 is a decent price. If you consider a decent electronic boost controller will be about 250-300.

Get the car mapped properly, or save a couple of hundred and pay thousands when it goes 'pop'.

Sweet but just out of curiosity, how much boost does the bug eye handle on stock?

get ready for a post in a couple weeks saying "hey my cars gone bang after fitting a boost controller, what do i do now"
take the advice given and get it mapped.you can get up to 35bhp extra on a standard car from a re-map so well worth it.

I am taking the advice....and will probably just leave it stock till I get some more mods in before I take it for a re-map...
I doubt there will be a post saying that.

Trust us buddy. Get the car remapped. It will be much more fun to drive and a hell of a lot safer than just whacking the boost up on the standard map.
