No Boost
Hi, drove my 03 wrx yesterday all fine. Got in it today and starts and runs ok but no power, the turbo is not spooling up. Stopped the engine for 5 minutes, restarted all fine again, running perfectly. Next time I tried no power again. I have checked all pipes / connections, everything appears ok. There is a slight rattling noise coming from the turbo area if you raise the revs to 1500 then drop them down again, although that may have been there all along.
Any thoughts on what would make it work, then not, then work again?
Cheers

Thanks guys, it has got an aftermarket dump valve, I cleaned it all seemed ok but no difference. Where is the solenoid to check? The car is very down on power, won't really go over 60, surely if the turbo wasn't working it would just drive like a n/a. Its now like it all the time. The car was remapped on Monday but has been running fine since.

You can see pic. here: http://www.scoobypedia.co.uk/index.p...ontrolSolenoid
If it's after restart works, than it's not mechanical(turbo, wastgate etc). At least shouldn't be...
After remapped... Welll... Maybe there is some error in ECU to boost control... Should just connect to OBDII and check all parameters... Or go to those, who remapped...

Remove it... And use some spray and clean it... But not sure, that u can use any...
Well... even someone like prodrive can make some mistake ir remapping... It's better to go and check with PC all data from ECU, than spend many hours doing something on your own... If there is no problem in all meassurements.. than check turbo,solenoid...

Yes I believe Duncan is in Cyprus, hopefully he can give me some guidance as to what it could be. Can't see its anything connected to the remap though, but what do I know.
How would I know if the turbo had gone, would it smoke or anything?

As we all know... U can't blame someone, before it's prooven... So that's why it's beter see, what ECU is showing in that moment, when is no boost... After reMAP u get more power... more boost... And it can cause some old, fault pipe, wiring, mechanical damage, what is normal and u should count on that... So my subjective opinion is just to check with electrics and than start to ,,dig in'' in engine bay...

To check, if it's turbo.. U can unplug tube from wastegate and try than.. But be carefull... Than turbo is working on 100%... It will blow 1.5 bar or even more... Just quickly check if it boost's... If no... than problem is in turbo...

i would say its either the dump valve leaking or the actuator not working, have you checked the actuator linkage???
if its an aftermarket dumpvalve the springs sometimes fail and leak boost just because it looks ok doesn't mean it is.
the heat shields rattle on the turbos when they become loose also the manifold heat shields become loose and rattle.
