Default engine noise question... please help :-(

afternoon i have a friend who has a engine noise on his 03 impreza

its a loud screeching type noise coming from the front of the engine i have disconnected both belts to rule out the pas pump and alternator etc

it sounds like a dry bearing, has anyone heard of the cambelt idler/bearings causing noises when they have failed?

or is there any noise clips of what a buggerd bottom end sounds like?

thanks

Bottom ends knock when failed. I'd rove the cam belt covers first.

That sounds bad but a longer clip would help but I'm not sure you'd want to run it too long. I think you need a local specialist to look at this before things go **** up. Where are you?

yep it doesn't sound good BUT to me doesn't sound like bottom end knock eaither... sounds like its right at the front of the engine so i was assuming a cambelt bearing seized or failed

in the video as its cranking you can hear the noise start quiet and gets louder as it fires up

I think you may be right. With a noise like that a specialist needs to see it as messing with it may make matters worse.
