Default Bluetooth ODB connector

Hello guys,

I'm looking at being able to view engine fault codes, and other sensor information using my mobile phone. I believe there is an application available for android and iOS that uses bluetooth to communicate with a diagnostic scanner that connects to the OBD2 port.

Does anyone know anything about this and whether I can just get any off the shelf product? I was hoping to be able to see things like temperatures, pressures and timings.. I have no intention of changing the map that Bob Rawle put on there; would just like to see what's going on.

Cheers!

Thanks for the reply; I believe I know the software side but I'm more concerned at what connector I need.

I've got the standard classic green and black test connectors, but I also have the following: -

I'm assuming that's in fact an ODBII port, so I'm in luck.. as I believe most classics do not have one. I assume it's because it's the late 2000 model version 6 JDM WRX STi

The classics had/have an OBDII port but it only connects using Subaru Select Monitor (SSM)

OBDII only came into use in the UK in 2001 (Newage onwards)

AFAIK, JDM models "do not always" connect using OBDII and SSM is a better option for them.

Correct. Classics have an OBDII port, but not the full functionality that should go with it.

Ah, some great replies, I didn't know about SSM, I was hoping to get a screen for my car that would have digital dials. I'm actually a software engineer and would really like to have a play with making an interface. I'm okay with the software side of things; I really just want a way of extracting it from the ECU.

I believe there are a couple of apps available that use SSM.
May be of use......
