OBD2 Cable

OBD2 Cable
I'm in the market to plug in my 2006 Haweye Sti Spec D.
At the moment its just for an ecu reset now i'm off the 95 RON tank and seeing what is going on and to learn a bit about the ecu (no opensource changes yet thats for sure!)
Anyway a load of searching and most results from well over a year ago suggest EcuFlash, Romraider and a Tactrix cable.... Is this still the best or would a simple bluetooth or wifi obd2 plug suffice for simple logging and diagnosis? I'm seeing usb cables for just £15 on fleebay but i can see them being woofully risky!
Likewise any suggestions on what info might be useful for general health checking would be helpul.

Pretty sure only Tactrix cable will work with ecuflash. I did hear about a ebay VAGcom cable working after re-wiring a certain pin but not sure.
The WiFi tool will only allow you to read/reset fault codes and read certain live parameters.

for what you want to do a £10 obd ebay lead and laptop will do and the said romraider for your logging, the new version even has a dyno function so you can see what bhp your running ( ok maybe not that accurate but fun)
A tactrix will allow you to read and write a new image to your ecu (remap) but is £150 +,
if all you want to do is a health check or read error codes then ebay is your friend imo.

Cheers Stig... that was what I was hoping for really. Keeps the cost low and I can at least see what difference fuels in my area are making (having only just run down the full tank of 95 the dealer put in it!! Grrrr!).
Does rombraider have the ability of doing the ECU reset too? Would be nice not to have to wait 300+ miles to re-learn Vmax or Tesco 99!

However if you want to do me a real favour then pointing out a suitable VAG type cable on Fleebay would be great! Baring in mind i'm on an MY06 Sti which I think has CAN?

CAN is the comms protocol used for communicating with the ECU, its the method used for reading the ECU data.
ECUflash is used to read and write the ROM to the ECU. It can also be used for editing the ROM values in the same way RomRaider can. I always use ECUflash for editing, saves swapping back and forth between ECUflash and RomRaider.
