Default V2 STi Upgrade TMIC Options?

Hi all,

I'm currenlty running around 320bhp with a MY95 STi using the standard STi slanty TMIC. I'm gonna be modding up to around the 380bhp level and really don't want to be going down the FMIC route just yet, so looking at what alternative TMIC options I have for the v2.

I can't see any aftermarket units to fit the 92-96 v1/2, so if anyone else knows of the existance of anything off the shelf that'd be perfect. Failing that, I'm sure there'll be a "How To" somewhere for modifying brackets etc to use a v7/8 TMIC? Hopefully .

Cheers

LOL, yep, but was just holding out hope that there may have been an aftermarket unit that negates the ballache of fabricating/modifying brackets etc to make a newage STi one fit, and not sure if the strut brace will still fit etc .

im selling a v7 sti cooler on ebay for the last of the classics the reason it doesn't fit any earlier models is because the idle control valve gets in the way where the dump valve would be, also you cant cut that bit out and weld over it because it would melt the rubber gasket inside the intercooler

MR, the New Age STi TMs seem to deliver the goods up to about the 420-450bhp bracket - and, 2nd hand, will be the most cost effective option, if you must retain a TM.

You would be far better off going to an effective front mount such as Hybrid which will show gains on your car, even at 320 bhp, and if you plan to go in the direction of 380 bhp an efficient front mount will show good gains over an STi 8 type top mount at that power level.
I know from testing that STi 8 top mounts can be used over 400 bhp but it is the laws of diminishing returns that you have to be aware of. If you care to monitor your air charge temperatures you will see exactly why I am advocating a Hybrid front mount over an STi 8 top mount.

That's sound advice Harvey, although whilst I was looking at the different FMIC options for the v2 I stumbled across a v7 STi TMIC for £30, so bit the bullet and will have a go at adapting it to fit with the existing remote recirc valve .

If I'm not satisfied with the work-around I'll get a hybrid FMIC as you've suggested.

Cheers for the advice .

Good luck with it. When I fitted the STI 8 TMIC to the STi 3 Wagon it turned out to be a far bigger job than I anticipated to make it look OE and initial results were disappointing. I then fitted the STi 8 scoop AND bonnet undertray and spent a little bit of time sealing the underscoop to the top of the TMIC and it was only at that point I considered the intercooler performance worthwhile but still not up to an FMIC.
£30 is a bargain but see if you can get the mounting brackets as it will save you time fabricating.

Fitting a FMIC is so easy and so much better than a ballache TMIC install. The only concern I would have is the slightly laggier VF22. Might want to consider the headers and uppipe aswell.
