Default New here, engine woes

Hi all I have just purchased an 01 wrx bugeye wagon but with a nackered bottom end. My friend and I were going to swap all my top end components onto a working 1998 block and heads. Unfortunately as most of you will probably know the inlet manifold will not bolt to the classic heads. My question is will we be able to use just the 1998 block/ will it fit the rest of my 01 engine

Thanks
Dan

if you put the 01 heads on your 98 bottom end yes it will work but will be alot of p*ssing around, youd probably be beter getting an 01 bottom end wiggy

Thanks for the welcome, messing about is not a problem as both engines are out and fortunately we don't have any time constraints on having the car running. I just didn't want to get it all pulled apart and find I had a square peg and a round hole :-)

Just to add would there be any head gadget fitment issues? Looking on eBay It shows gaskets from 97 to 00 but other listings say fits all ej20's ?

Head gaskets fitment is not a problem for the engine your building! it would only become a problem if you had a 2.5 bottom end!

Please dont buy head gaskets of fleabay, get them from a reputable company like scoobyclinic! and if you budget allows get up rated ones such as cosworth head gaskets, you will also need to change your rocker cover gaskets at the same time hope this helps wiggy

fleabay is ok if you use advanced automotive or import car parts, both are very good
