when you say engine. Are you referring to the short (just block halves, crank, rods and pistons) or long block (short block plus heads).
If its just swapping a short block and retaining your original ancilliaries (inlet, exhaust, heads and turbo) then no remap required.
If your new engine, although from the same reg is from a different domestic market (jap, euro, US) then you'll have to be more careful as the heads and turbo may different from your original which will require a remap. In that case, you would probably be best strip both long blocks and swapping the new short block to the old ancilliaries.
Also, even if both engines are from the same reg and domestic market, you may still have issues as the difference in phases may play a part.
Hope that made sense. Feel free to post up what car you have and the engine you plan to swap into it.

i am changing the complete engine,i have required a full engine which is a ej205 which comes with everything on it.all i have to change is the turbo has the new engines one has play in the shaft and mine has not.so really it is going to be a straight swap mine for the new one.they are both engines from a 52 reg bug eye.i did not no if i had to re-map it.it has a td04 on it i was wondering if i changed the turbo which would be best to have for say getting between 280 and 300 bhp and what else i would have to change has the new engine is not being fitted til about 2 wks time.any info would be appreciated.all i know from my mate it still has original injectors in.both engines are from a uk model

Just keep the turbo you have and remap, that should easily see you to 270+. I made 277hp from a UK 2000 with TD04 on std injectors, walbro pump, NGKPFR7B plugs, K+N panel filter and a sports cat.
If you want more than that then the VF28 from a P1 or V5 STI would see you over 280 and possibly a bit over 300 too and should still spool quite well.

If your car has a bespoke map on it then it will need a map tweak as your ecu is not set for the new engine. If you have the factory generic map it will be fine with the new engine as long as there are no mods.
