Unhappy Revs Sticking!!

Hi, I noticed today that when I was accelerating hard in 3rd the Revs wouldnt go any higher than 4000 rpm

Ive tried reving it in 1st and second and they seem to go above it. Also in Neutral it can go way past 4000 i managed to get it to 6000 no problem.

It just seems like it sticks at 4000 in 3rd gear

Any advice would really help

cheers,

Matt

P.S. the car is a 1999 Turbo 2000

Was your check engine light on? Also was your speedo working?

Cheers Iain

Does the engine light illuminate when you turn the ignition on? Before you start the engine.

Hi, the check engine light comes on with the ignition, then goes out. just like all the other warning lights.

It is very strange that your ECU is limiting the revs without showing the cel, it may be worth checking for a code anyway, search on here how to read ECU fault codes, it's really easy. Basically it involves connecting two single pin black connectors under the dash, turn on the ignition and count the cel flashes, a stead even flash means no stored codes, slow means ten, fast means one, so 2 slow and 3 fast = 23 etc. Turn off ignition and disconnect connectors when you are done. Post the code up on here if you find one. There may be more than one code there will be a pause in-between each code and they repeat over and over.

Cheers Iain
