Looking at buying a td05 16g turbo just want to know what everyone thinks of them? Also they fit straight on? Or you need extra bits?

Good turbo, strong as well.
If you have phase 1 impreza then straight swap, if newer then a little modding to it to my it front entry.
Can get upto 350 bhp

They are as tough as old boots.

Standard turbo on early WRX's and some really early UK Turbo's.

Just sold mine, had it with 1bar actuator but found it a bit old tech and lagy. Got vf30 now , much better for my liking.

Not a 16g.

Try the search function, it's not that bad.

How about you tell us what spec engine you have currently and what gearbox is fitted, that way we can tell you the best route without putting a hole in the block

TD's are strong, but laggy if you want decent power too!

Turbos have come on a shed load over the last few years ..... if on a budget id definately look towards speccing the right VF over a TD!

As suggested, a vf30 isnt a bad call!

TD05-20G should be better than TD06-20G...

TD06 are laggy on the 2.0L STi,due this I would go with the TD05-20G

Out are few more of TD05,like TD05-18G(370bhp) or TD05-20G(370-400,with 20% methanol you should be make 420-440 ) plus billet version, which will make little more

Yeah, for 400(ish) you'll need either:-

-MD321H (prob second hand)
-TD05H 20g (from Harvey or Andy Forrest)
-SC40 Billet of Scooby Clinic
-Or to be sure of 400, then a SC42 Billet...

If you don't plan on 'bhp creep', and intend to buy new, then I'd prob plump for the SC40 Billet. General consensus is this turbo wins out on spool-up over the others.

If money not tight, then a set of GT1 or GT2 tubular headers and trick uppipe off Harvey too. These will help with spool and a bit of top end gain.

Plus 650cc injectors. (550cc can be marginal from 380-420ish - albeit you'd be unlucky if they maxed out as early as 380).

Obviously a remap too lol

What model and year of car just for starters. We cannot give you the best advice if we don't have all the information, eg. spec of engine and mods to date. A TD05-16G is generally a 340-350 bhp turbo. An 18G 360+ bhp providing it is a genuine non copy turbo with Mitsubishi parts and a TD05 20G 380+ bhp for a genuine one but it depends on spec and so on.
