help !!!!! air con smell- need advice
Hi All,
My air con when ever it is turned on produces a horrid damp/ musty smell which by doing research seems to be a build up of bacteria in the system. Does any one have this problem,- or more does anyone have a cure or what i need to do to fix the problem.
thanks

Halfords and other do a cleaner which you set off in the car and let the system pull through. Best is to get an A/C engineer use one of the heavy duty sprays on it! I use a company in Sussex called Chilly ******!

really easy to do put the a/c on and put it on recirc (car running). put you passenger seat as far foward as it will go put the bomb on the floor behind, press the button and it will do its magic . heres the link from halfods wesite

These "bombs" areca temperary fix. I did one , two weeks later smell crept back.Tried a different brand , lasted a month. I finnaly give up asking on forums , and before going to Kwikfit i asked my mechanic and he is doing it for me within the next couple of weeks. A long tube goes in to clean the AC coils , if you dont get the right area , it wont work.
My car is 10 years old , so maybe the bombs work if its not too bad.

well it all depends on how much you want to spend, if you want it done properly the only way to do it is to remove the evaporator which means removing the dash and soaking the evaporator in boiling water to kill all bacteria. the ones with the long tube are s h i t as you cant get to the evaporator properly and all the stuff goes into the bottom of the heater box. so for £7 - £8 i would be willing to give it a try, iv been using them in my garage for the past 8 years and have no complaints.
