is there much work involved in putting a turbo on a standard impreza 2.0 sport engine??

Too much, not worth the effort.

It's not just the turbo, it's the brakes, suspension, gearbox etc etc, not to mention the engine internals, etc etc.

Then there's the insurance...

Get shot and buy a turbo'd Impreza.

as above. it's cheaper to buy an wrx or STi. you will basically need everything from a donor wrx or Sti. the only thing from the NA car will be the body shell.
