Lightbulb Difficult question for Classic pros! Help needed!

Hi!

A friend of mine and me did a lot of work on my MY98 Classic.

We're almost done but there's a bolt and a nut we just can't remember where it came from!

We replaced and maintained a lot of parts. Listing our work might help to locate where the bolt and the nut might have come from:

- changed timing belt, idlers, tensioner and water pump.
- replaced power steering pump.
- took off the inlet manifold (replaced inlet pipe) and intercooler
- replaced rocker cover gaskets
- replaced radiator
- replaced power steering and alternator pulleys
- the air box has been out

...and lots of other parts/work i can't remember right now!

There are still not all parts back in the car, but the only thing we don't remember is where this bolt and this nut came from:

Any help is appreciated a lot!

Cheers
Andy

Richard, I wouldn't waste my time with someone that doesn't know the difference between a screw and a nut and bolt.

It could be from anywhere!

Well I know it's a nut & bolt & in your post you say it is too, so what has a screw got to do with it? I have an idea where it's from but need a little more info to confirm, as the picture could be showing an M6 or an M10.

Might sound a bit weird mate but bear with me and read on with thisas its worked for me a few times. Go over the car on the areas you worked on as stated above with a pen or led light looking at all the connections. Give the areas on your car a little tug n push to see if theres any loose movement bud. Obvisouly you'll want to double check the vital areas such as water pump etc but im guessing as its been connected to some ally its possibly on some type of bracket given the shortness as well.

Give it a try mate and you may find the nut n bolt go somewhere that can be easily forgotten

Good luck n let us know how you get on

OK, I hope no one is going to have a pop at me for this, but as Iv had my engine in & out more times than I can remember I'll give my opinion on it. I believe it is the set screw & nut, or nut & bolt which goes through the lower bracket on the coolant header tank, & fixes it to the inlet manifold, hence the alloy in the thread.
Good luck, & let me know if this is correct.
Richard.
