Default 0.65 bar = normal uk boost or actuator problem

After having a few boost issues, car was making less than half a bar. Found out had no pill in the vacuum line so fitted a 1.2mm pill and it now it peaks about 0.65 is this right for a uk 99 turbo as from what i've read it should be 0.9?

Car has uprated fuel pump, panel filter, 3" exhaust from turbo inc decat

Cheers

Has the car been mapped after these mods?

A 1999 UK Turbo 2000 has 215bhp/214lb ft.

Early 92-96 JDM WRX saloons ran 237bhp/224lb ft @ 'only' 0.79bar.

IIRC, I think 0.69bar is all the UK Turbo 2000s' std. boost target.

Obviously, your "0.65bar" - i.e. 0.04bar (0.6psi) down - could simply account for the (in)accuracy of the gauge/your reading of it.

But I might be wrong of course.

No you should definitely be getting almost 0.9bar mid range tailing off to around 0.6 near the red line. From what I remember of a standard car you probably won't get 0.9 bar in 2nd or 3rd unless you go for it a couple of times but you should see it in 4th and 5th.

Oh okay. Peak boost of 0.9bar in the midrange. Then tailing to c.0.6.

Fair enough.

I'm sorry I don't know what the standard pill size is, but its possibly smaller than 1.2mm. The ECU is adaptive around about an initial duty value, but may not be able to get max boost if your pill size is too big.

Also make sure you have some pre-tension on the wastegate actuator arm.

Also worth clearing out the lines and solenoid with carb cleaner or equivalent as people have reported they sometimes get fouled with oil.

Well from what i've read it's 1.2 and its in between turbo and t piece.
How do i check the pre-tension on the actuator?
Cleaned the solenoid, even tried another one on it, in case it was that.
So if was not making more than 0.65 was thinking it might be actuator?

To pre-tension the w/g act., this tutorial explains/shows you how:-

1. Remove the little C-clip or R-clip which holds the wastegate rod to the wastegate flap's lever arm.
2. Slacken off the nut that holds the actuator rod extender.
3. Lift the actuator extender off of the wastegate lever arm.
4. Rotate the actuator extender clockwise to shorten the overall length of the actuator rod.
5. The actuator rod should be half of the hole-length short to the wastegate lever arm when wastegate is fully shut.
6. Pull the actuator extender towards the exhaust side and secure the extender over the wastegate lever arm.
7. Re-fit the C-clip/R-clip back to wastegate lever arm.
8. Re-tighten up the extender nut.
