Default Advise on turbo upgrade

I have a 2003 STI that is being rebuilt as we speak due to the bottom end failing

I want to up rate my VF35 turbo but want to know what people think to fitting a SC46 to a 2ltr car, what results have people had and what injectors to run ?

I have a perrin top mount cooler at the moment but would i need a front mount to get past 400BHP?

I have been reading many threads over the last few days but theres so many different thoughts on this

Engine has wossner pistons and new steel rods, New cross drilled crank, ACL bearings

Any comments welcome

Hi there

SC46 on 2.0L can be laggy, would consider rather SC42 or MDX321H or MDX321T and those will make 400bhp...

I would say you will need 650cc injectors at least if you don't want to run parallel rails and FPR,840cc will be safe bet...

Perrin TMIC should be OK,but still think FMIC will be too safer bet and if its mapped correctly you will never see lag.

You will be limited on your car with boost which you can run on your OE ECU,with CarBerry you can run higher boost without the buying aftermarket boost controller(Apexi AVC-R preferably) or going with aftermarket ECU(Syvecs or SimTek/AlcaTek or others ECU)

You'd have been better going 2.1 stroker route if you want to use an SC46. Some people swear the SC46 is fine on a 2L, im even tempted to go that route myself, but the general consensus & the Clinics opinion is that a 2L is too laggy with the SC46 & the 42 is a better option. Do you just want big HP or drivability?

Car has already had a Ecutek remap so i presume the ECU will be good?

So SC42 turbo will be the better bet?

Wheres the best place to source injectors?

Its got to be a fast road car, Car is sat at 346 bhp now and is nice so wanting to upgrade from there, I dont want massive amount of lag just for the sake of 20/30 bhp

Hence why asking for peoples views on this

Cheers

RCM or Lateral for injectors & it you want a FMIC which is advisable, then I'd contact Harvey Smith about a Hybrid which is the best value for money.

With EcuTek you will be limited by boost(1.45-1.55bar) and if you want run more boost as i said above aftermarket ECU or boost controller will be needed if you want the run higher bhp and boost

SC42 will be better bet just will spool nicer.sooner than SC46 which can be laggy on the 2.0STi

Best place to source injectors have look here, few guys selling here them and if you have still yours pink sent them to the Mark@Lateral performance for re-flowing and flow matching and from yours 565cc you should have 900cc+ for around £150

Only if it's been set up badly.
In my experience of them which to be fair is probably much more than yours considering you don't run one, they aren't laggy regardless what engine size you fit them too.
Now I've dispelled that little myth, I won't argue with the rest of what you have said, the 42 is probably a better choice for the OP's power goals

Martin, would you say that the 42 has better spool than the 46 or is it all a myth? I'd like a 46 myself but on a 2L most people Inc ScoobyClinic say the 42 is better.
Thanks, Richard.

The 42 is slightly faster spooling than the 46, in the real world though it makes little difference, they're both awesome

Did you lose any tractability? From what speed will it pull in 6th?

SC42 here, its awesome and instant with zero lag at all.

Looking forward to see RR dyno graphs SC46 on the 2.0L STi with AVCS

I've seen SC42 on the 2.0 or 2.1L and looks good.

We're went with MDX321T and I can only recommend T on the 2.1L
