Default Limits of an uprated in tank pump?

Hi

I am just wondering what power/fuelling limits tend to be of using an uprated in tank pump, and a what level adding a secondary pump and swirl pot set up becomes a requirement?

Hi there

Fuel pump limits, depends which one like 255/290/340LPH or 044

We are running HRC 340LPH at 490bhp,but I've seen on the 255LPH 520bhp,all depends on more factors
What power you are thinking to run or you are running?

Swirl pot and secondary pump is required/recommended if you are looking to do track days or if you are running high bhp

Power wise in the region of say 450 ish. Unlikely to do track days really.

For your power 450bhp+ would say 290/340LPH will be enough, but 255LPH should be enough/good too

Thanks for the help. So possibly no need for external pumps and swirl pots etc?

Swirl pot + external pump for complete safety, however bear in mind you may get fuel smells / etc. if boot mounted, and possibly a big fire if you mount it in the engine bay and have a big front end smash :-) - also it can cost a lot of cash if you use proper -AN fittings / braided hose. Personally I'm using normal rubber hose and push on -AN connectors and mounted in the engine bay.

Also, purely from a technical point of view the Walbro 255 flows over 200 liters per hour up until 75psi and then its flow drops off.

200 liters per hour / 3.3 liters a minute / 3,333cc per minute - over 4 injectors is 833cc per injector, which means a Walbro 255 should support ~850cc injectors (which is a hell of a lot more power than 450hp). How well that theory stands up in practice (and how much headroom you need) is another matter, so I opted for a swirl pot and Bosch 044 and I'm running 450hp, probably overkill and I think the Walbro 255 will be fine for 450hp, but I've also heard of reliability issues with the Walbro from a few mappers which is why I went for the 044.

From my research the 044 has a very good reputation as a solid performer. I suggest you speak to some reputable engine builders / mappers and get their opinion as the fuel system is a critical component that can destroy your engine if spec'd / installed wrong, try Alan @ Engine Tuner / Paul @ Zen / Andy Forrest / Mark @ Lateral.

As above swirl pot I wouldn't use/put on the road car plus 044 fuel pump is not quietest fuel pump on the market

And as above would speak to the guys above and would go with recommendation from them.

Thanks guys, as it was recommended by the preferred mapper I think I'll stick with the plan to fit. Its not a daily driver so can live with the noise.....hopefully!
