Default Rather Heavy Oil Usage

Hi guys, firstly I will say that my oil change / filter will be done on Saturday to see if this helps.

Ever since I have owned the car, it's used rather a lot of oil. Maybe 4 litres in the last 8k.

Can anyone throw out any suggestions as to why this could be?

I don't seem to have any oil in my coolant either.

Its a 2005 WRX.

Cheers, Paul

Could be a few things tbh.. worn piston rings. seals and valves worn. wrong grade oil. turbo on way out.....

my 1st step would be a compression test.

Has the engine been rebuilt with forged pistons in the past?

4 litres to 8k is within spec. I dont like it personally. But its said 1ltr per 1k is acceptable

You could do a crank test pretty easily and listen for any irregularities. Compression test is easy enough to do as well, you can get a compression tester from somewhere like Halfords.

But as above... 1L per 1000 miles is more where the danger zone is - 0.5L per 1000 miles is still a bit high and worth checking out.

...thinking about it, check for oil leaks around the cam cover gaskets as these can dry out and weep.
