Default Classic exhaust advice please

Hi all,

I have just purchased my first Subaru and already am in love! However I am not the sort of person who can leave a car alone/standard for too long. I have fitted a K & N high flow panel last week and the car already has a Jap Spec rear back box fitted.

However I am wanting to get the car re-mapped as my next stage and the tuner (Jolly Green Giant aka Simon) has advised that I fit a de-cat prior to re-mapping.

I have a 2000 classic Impreza and am just wondering how many cats the car has? Looks like one in the downpipe and one in the centre section or is this a muffler?

If so should I be looking at de-cat pipes for both the centre section and the downpipe before the tuning? Or should I only de-cat one or the other? And also best place to buy them?

Also just wondering on any other fairly easy/cheap mods to do (without the need for a new turbo as I think I will do this at a later stage)?

Any advise would be greatly appricated. Thanks.

Max

Its only a resonator in the centre section, still worth replacing with a straight through stainless jobbie though!

Would also be worth refreshing the fuel pump (HRC255 or Walbro)

Thanks for the reply's.

So the only cat in the system is the one on the downpipe then? Where is best to buy a stainless (preferably) de-cat pipe for this?

When you say the centre box is a resonator is this the same as a muffler? If so would it be worth replaying with a straight through pipe? Would I gain more power from a straight though pipe when I have it re-mapped?

Cheers

More power - probably not. More pops, bangs and general noise. - yes

Just remember to keep a hold of the catted downpipe for emissions test purposes

Ok I will probably get a straight through on the centre aswell then if it will create more pops and bangs

Any other advise on what small mods I could do for a little more bhp? Not feeling up to a new turbo at the moment but probably go for a VF34 at a later date.

Also what sort of power could I safely run the 2000 turbo at? People seem to say around 330BHP is about the max on standard internals and the standard transmission set up?

If you haven't already got one then a 3 port boost solenoid is worthwhile before the remap. Before you consider what exhaust to fit consider if you plan to take it on track days as most systems don't pass the noise regs.
