Default Turbo 2000 Engine Cuts Out

Hi there,

Car is a MY2000 (W reg), UK Turbo. Only mod is an STI back box, all standard. 135,000 miles. FSH.

Twice now the car has lost power and cut out. Wont restart, turns fine, it just wont catch. Wait 10 minutes then it starts fine. No CEL.

After it happened the first time I had the MAF replaced, plus spark plugs, leads, and had a big service, which included fuel filter. When I had the MAF done they said there was no fault code logged from when it happened first time. Done at a Subaru specialist.

It happened again today, real pain in rush hour and on a junction too!

Any ideas on what it could be?

Thanks,
R

Sounds good, thanks for the replies. I'll do a search on a how to for this......if anyone has any pics of the cam shaft sensor, and any tips for cleaning (wd40?) that would be great.

Thanks again.

Oh and it happened this morning again on the way into work. This time I didnt keep trying in vain, I just left it for 5 minutes then it started again. Seems if you keep trying it when its dead, it'll take longer to start.

Do you have the sigma alarm fitted? The immobiliser relay for fuel pump breaks down with heat, get that part of the alarm bypassed.

Thats a good point, although the first time it happened was very early morning, and it was cold, the car had only just been started for 10 minutes, but I will keep it in mind.

Just going to see if I can get an error code out of the ECU now.

Well, a month back I had the cam sensor replaced, as it was old and cruddy. Sods law, while the car was at Subaru4You for a couple of days it didnt cut out at all.

A month passed with no issue, and all ok, but the past three days it has happened 6 times, very frustrating.

Going to call Subaru4you and get that immobiliser relay sorted, another thing to tick off the list.

But yeesh its annoying, happened 4 times on a 10 mile drive home last night....cut out... stop, wait a bit, start....drive....cut out....stop.....rinse and repeat.
