Default oil spitting out of breather pipe,or intercooler pipeing!?

hi,can anyone tell me what the small black part is that is fitted to the top of the head/rocker covers? it looks like oil has spat out of this beather pipe which goes from back of inlet/block to this black part on top of the rocker/head?
the pipe seems very easy to come off and am i right in thinking just to put a couple clips on the pipe to secure to stop it from spitting out under load?

v9 sti bottom end
ver 4 type r heads.
thanks.

Its part of the breather system bud,it should be a tight fit onto the breather cap outlet so it sounds like the pipe has just gone slack through oil contamination, easy enough to change,13mm ID pipe required if memory serves me correctly

cheers ryan,so if the pipe just pops off easy, thats where the oil will spit out from? is that supposed to happen?
a worrying moment!

Yes it should be a nice tight fit as they only have a crappy sprung clip from the factory so should almost be self sealing from the tight fit,I would put some new pipe there and a jubilee clip to make sure it can't leak anymore

there is defo no clips on either end,the oil dosent seem to be coming from anywhere else,i pulled the pipe off with one finger, really easy,it spat oil all over washer bottle, top of battery, inner wing and underside of bonnet.

ps,thanks matty. is a catch can needed or is it just another optional mod?

Shouldn't need a jubilee clip as there shouldn't be much pressure running through it. As long as the pipe feels tight'ish it will be fine. Unless ofcourse there is a blockage in the pipework somewhere causing the pressure to build up and popping the pipe off. In that case you'd rather the pipe pop off so you know there's a problem, if you stick a jubilee on there it won't be able to.
All three of my breathers have been replaced with Samco (can't remember the exact size but sure Ryan is correct with 13mm) pipe just push fitted on.

When you say spat oil everywhere how much oil we talking about ? There shouldn't be any considerable amount in the pipe, it's just a breather.

well, because it had certainly been spitting out it seemed quite a bit,but more like spray, covered washer bottle, bit on the top of battery and some on the inner wing, its not dripping anywhere but i had to wipe a fair bit off.

Stick a new piece of pipe on which is a snug fit. If it blows oil or blows the pipe off then there's an issue.

The other option is to cut a bottle in half and cable tie it down somewhere in the bay. Run a new pipe from the breathers into the bottle and see what it collects. I've got a pal who's been using this method as a catch can for the last 3 years, lol. Tight bugger won't buy a proper can....

The pipe comes off the breather and runs for about 6 inches then connects to a metal pipe. Just pull the pipe off the rocker cover and blow down it to see if its clear. Can't imagine it's blocked though. I'd think your original pipe has just worn a bit and allowing oil residue to escape

With the engine running and pipe off how much air can you feel coming out of the breather top?

ive replaced the pipe with new,put a jubilee clip on and its done it again, but oil has not come from this breather pipe, its coming from the joins of the fmic pipes! ive removed one of the fmic pipes to find a nice amount of oil in there! its on the passenger side so it goes to the throttle body.
whats going on? im nearly throwing the towel in and giveing up.

Hope it's not turbo failing chap...... :-(

Id clean out the cooler and pipes as best you can and fit a catch can.
A little oil in the cooler pipes is completely normal remember for cars not using a catch can, it's if you start getting a lot of oil in there then there could be a serious problem. I'd also suggest you tighten the clips on the intercooler up properly as there shouldn't be anyway oil could escape from there. If oil is getting out then air is as well.

no ryan, its coming from the i/c pipes on the silicone joiner which tallys with a few of the probs during the time of mapping.i think the i/c system needs stripping and cleaning and refit with new silicone joiners. is there anywhere other than harvey to get these with the new clamps? its a hybrid fmic,or is harvey the man for this?

Contact this company. They will make up some silicone hose to whatever size shape you want (I'm sure yours will be fine though after a clean) and then add some of the clips in the link for a good seal
