Default Ball joint help

I needed to replace the castle nut as the split pin in my off side front ball joint was rusted in. Unfortunatley the thread was knackered so I ordered a new one from import car parts. This is what they sent me-

However this is what came out of the hub. See picture in second post.

Now my question is does the collar seperate from the joint and is then reused on the new joint?

I did wonder if they sent the wrong part but import car parts have also been spot on in the past and I can't see any joints on their site with the collar piece on. Alternatively have subaru changed the design totally? Would seem strange as there is such a difference between the two.

Yes, the tapered collar will come off but it is a tight fit after being pressed in for many years. IIRC I used the old wedge style ball joint splitter and a 3lb lump hammer to get the 2 apart

Thanks Jon, I wondered as much.

I was changing the nut ready for its MOT on saturday. The garage is going to get the collar off for me to save all the swearing
