turbo gone (i think)
hi i posted a week a go about a couple of problems i think i found the source today i looked at my turbo and i could see some oil around the seal plus the turbo is a bit damp so i think its the turbo so the questions are
1 do you guy think it could be the turbo
2 the car is mapped on an apexi ecu will it need remapping if i put a replacement td05 turbo on the car which is whats on there at the moment
3 and finally i was thinking of going to 450bhp could someone recommend a turbo to suit kind of bhp and would that need remapping when fitted
thanks for your time
Chris

1) Could well be Do you get plumes of blue-white oil smoke out the tailpipe?
Test: after a run, come to a stop. Let it idle for 5 mins. Then rev it. Is there any smoke out the tailpipe.............?
2) Shouldn't need to.
3) SC46 Billet should get you near (mapped on V-P). Should defo do 450 mapped on V-P + 20% meth. SC46 Billet has great spool. But not sure how well the aged Apexi (albeit still a decent ECU) would map the SC46.
Obviously, a larger TMIC (or better still, a FMIC) and 740cc injectors will be required too...

Disconnect the intake hose to the turbo. Is it very oily inside the hose and/or the compressor/nose? Grasp the shaft's nose nut and pull/push it in an in/out fashion - is there any movement whatsoever?
Also, and if you can be bothered, disconnect the turbo-to-IC hose and check for excessive oil. If you remove the IC you can check for oil in that too...

Hello mate as above if the turbo is giving up,the tell tell signs would be smoke, and it not being able to boost properly and whining noises movement on the shaft, blades etc....the apexi ecu should be fine i know guys with the apexi ecu running over 500 bhp.if you think it's the turbo because of the before mentioned symptoms get a second opinion from your mechanic.

I have a 2nd hand Q45 MAF which I bought for my STi 5.... But got MAFless Simtek in the end, so it was never used on my car.
So that Q45 MAF is available. Thing is, I think it's 90mm dia., rather than 80mm, so you may need a collar adaptor for the air filter end. And maybe a 90-deg silicone reducer to replace the OEM MAF hose...
Whatever, the Q45 MAF + the connector/pigtails is for sale...

A 20g is a 370-400bhp turbo. I have one on my STi 5, mapped to 384bhp.
Thing is not all 20g's are equal (quality wise). And the sub-£300 eBay specials are best avoided! Your best bet would be to get one from Andy Forrest - pukka item with, I believe, billet comp wheels now. And if your exisiting 16g's housings aren't cracked, then he can give you money off on an exchange basis.
A 'vanilla' 20g is a bit later spooling compared to today's 400+ turbos, what with their with billet and cut back wheels, etc.

alright Ive checked the nut inside the turbo and there was no play and could not see no oil anywhere in the turbo i checked this the silver side of the turbo not the exhaust side if that makes any sense to you.
i have noticed something else though the bov seems seized its crusted where the piston is but it sound like its going off when i change gear could this cause any whining noises and is there anyway to test bov plus the car started hunting this morning when i started it
ps joz i haven't forgot the offer of the q45 maf im just trying to sort this prob and see where i go from there
