over heating help please
Hi this morning my car temperature after about 3 minutes would go straight to red also not getting any warm air in the car. i topped up the coolant but after a few miles of pulling over to cool down it was all gone. its a impreza 2004 wrx.
Any ideas please i am not mechanical minded but can change parts.
Thanks

Two things:
First off your coolant system sounds like it's airlocked. There is now no option but to drain down and refill properly, do a search on here for posts from me as to how to.
Secondly, you may have now knackered the headgasket(s).
Get a sniff test done before doing the above, but top it up first.

Hmm, not sounding promising if you lose all that coolant that quickly so you need to check the following:-
Pipes are not split
Radiator isnt damaged
Air lock in the system
Its going to be a matter of sit it on the drive and get a mate to help you, take the top off the coolant header tank and ensure you have filled the system correctly, with the top off there will be no pressure so it wont come out of the top if you rev the car, if it does then it isnt good and it could be a head gasket job (normally spotted by water in the oil or a sniff test for methane).
Pipes are easy to do and so is the radiator but a HG job will be expensive as you have to do both heads

Because its a pressurised system it has no air in it so the water will just circulate, if you have air in the system then the air forces the coolant out because its either replacing the coolant with more air or there is an airlock in the system.
Worth you re doing the coolant Baz and not all failures across HG's are water to oil, you can have water to water and water to air (normally a cracked head )
