Default Type R V3 Spec questions

Hey up, just looking at a V3 Type R and was wondering if they came with 4 pot fronts and 2 pot rears? Its just that my V4 WRX had 2 pot fronts and single rears.

Cheers,

Wayne.

PS anything else I may miss out on by buying a V3 instead of a V4/5 or 6?

The v4 dashboard... I went from a v3 R to a V4 R, version 4 drives a fair bit better Not totally sure if all versions of R wore the same brakes.

V3's come with a VF23 turbo and V4's had the VF24 turbo

The VF23 has a larger turbine housing and can handle slightly more boost than VF24. Spool wise they are about the same but the VF23 is probably the best turbo fitted to any of the classics. Came standard on JDM 22B so can't be bad.

V4's are easier to find and do have the benefit of 2 pot rear brakes. Not sure if the V3 had the R160 or R180 Diff. Need to check on that.

Both V3 and V4 have the ej20k series engine. I have a V4.

Hope this helps.

They have an R180 rear diff and have different rear hubs to any other model year....bascially only fitted on the V3.

I was just saying that you don't come across V3's very often. I have hardly seen any on snet and don't pop up for sale often either. Could be wrong.

The reason I mentioned about the diff is because a friend of mine has V3 RA and it has an R160 rear diff but if all Type R's have R180's then no worries.

There is a chance the rear diff setup has been changed, my old V3 RA had an R180 rear diff.
