new to scoobys having a nightmare
Bit of a long story this, i bought a 2003 blobeye for the sum of £3000 a week ago, its got an sti intercooler, blitz nur spec exhaust with dcat,hks induction kit,walbro fuel pump and a turbosmart boost controller.
On the test drive the car was fine,no smoke or funny noises from the turbo, and i thought it was pretty quick(never drove a scooby before), so i left a deposit and went to pick it up 3 days later,it hadnt moved since i testdrove it.
Before i drove off,i put my tomtom down by the boostcontroller and accidently pressed the button.
I drove down the road and there was no boost whatsoever,i naturally thought id turned it off with the boostcontroller by accident,so i had a little fiddle with it,still nothing, so i rang the seller, but he said he has never touched it,as its been setup properly,it was getting late and i had a 2 hour drive home,so i drove home with no boost in the hope it was something silly.
I booked it into a garage for them to look at.
To my horror the turbo had siezed, £700 later with a brandnew turbo fitted, i decided to get it all remapped properly as i had spent quite a bit already.
Booked it in with duncan at racedynamix, hoping for a nice 280bhp,but the most it could do was 150bhp at the flywheel, which is pretty poor.
Duncan advised that the uppipe is blocked and therefor the turbos not getting the chance to spool up,
Im absolutely gutted as i now have to get the uppipe changed, has anyone else had this problem? Ive already spent £1100 on the car and ive only owned it a week, hes had a look at the car and would bet money thats whats wrong with it,

Yeah that is one good thing, i saved a bit of money,i was after a cupra r,but they was about £4000, and i could get a scooby for the same year and quicker for £3000, turned out to be more expensive than the cupra r,lol

Welcome to the joys of Subaru ownership. Scoobys are a money pit, but we love them when they're running right. The seller must have known about it, very dishonest.

I really don't know why so many people say that. Try owning BMW's and then you'll really know what a money pit is fella. I spent thousands on standard maintenance, when I owned a few 530i Sport models a few years ago.
All my scoobys have been very, very good with their reliability and maintenance costs.

All my mates with Scoobys agree with me on this, intact two of them have just sold up as times are hard & their Scoobys were financially draining. Iv had a range of German cars, VWs Audis BMWs, & still have an A3 diesel as a run about. All the German cars were reliable & cheap to repair whereas although I love it my Scooby has cost a fortune. Go to the technical section & look how many people have problems some serious like HG & engine failures. I'm not slating Imprezas, but you need to be prepared for what I call the joys of Subaru ownership, LOL. I own several cars & the Scoob is favourite by a long way, but I'm realistic about it's strengths & weakness. When yours goes wrong which it will if you keep it long enough, then tell me about how reliable it is & how cheap it is to fix, good luck.

Thing is youve bought a car with a boost controller an mods, that appears to have not been mapped. Not something id do. Hopefully with the up-pipe change and map. You will have no more problems

I don't think Scooby's specifically are money pits, any car with mild performance mods is going to cost money, you can check out the technical section of just about any car forum (where performance mods are used at a similar age) and it will pretty much be the same.

Certainly there are other cars which are money pits too let's face it high performance costs & if you want to play youv got to pay. I don't have a problem with this Im happy to pay for the level of performance I have, but others seem to be in denial about what these cars cost to run particularly if something goes wrong.

If I had to pay a garage every time I had an issue , I wouldn't entertain owning one
They are fun cars indeed but crap quality
I've only had minor niggles , but none the less niggles
Had an m3 prior to the scoob and in two years the only so called fault was a lambda sensor And prior to the m3 a 911
And Both cost less in service costs , no crappy cam belts or turbos or random generating cel lights
So in my experience scoobys are money pits

Even if it`s a private, sold as seen sale I`m pretty sure you have a case. The turbo was obviously fcuked before you bought it. A quick call to Citizens Advice and / or Trading Standards is in order...nothing to lose mate. Hope you get it sorted.
