Default WRX 2001 Radiator

Hi all

I have recently bought my first WRX 2001 model and the radiator failed splitting in the common spot between the plastic reservoir running along the bottom and the element. I have replaced it with a new standard radiator which is working fine but i have bought one by mistake with the radiator cap and additional overflow. Can i just run a rubber hose from the cap overflow to the reservoir or do i need a T-piece as in later models. Maybe a stupid question but i am pretty new to cooling systems any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Mike
