Default Urgent help needed

2001 bugeye 2.0 gx non turbo has been cutting out recently, usually starts again if I leave it for a couple of minutes but tonight it's died completely, won't start just turns over and occasionally splutters and dies again! Got plenty of petrol. Idle control valve was replaced 8-9 months ago but I'm not sure on the quality of it, not sure if that has anything to do with it but best to let you all know. Cars done about 124,000 miles! Any suggestions will be appreciated, urgently need it running again! Thanks a lot.

You say you have plenty of petrol - in the tank or are you checking it at the manifold ?
Timing belt jumped and valve timing out ?
Have you checked for fault codes stored in the ECU ?

Only in the tank, didnt get home till about 20 to 9 as I had to get towed back! Ill check it all out tomorrow, been told it might be a fuel pump issue! I'd rather it be that than a slipped cambelt though. I did check the fault codes a few days ago and it was idle control valve from before It was replaced I presume and a knock sensor on bank 1. Not too sure what the knock sensor is but I have a rough idea, eml is back on now though but I can't get it to work to check it out now!
