Default 1993 impreza wrx losing boost and over heating.

Hi there.....just bought myself an 93 impreza wrx 3 days ago because it was sitting in my bosses garage all winter and was cheap... The spec as far as I can tell it has a vf22 turbo with a front mount intercooler and dump valve a decat exhaust not sure if its re mapped. I put water in it and jump started it no problem let it warm up and set off home I hit boost a good few times and it pulled like a train the day after I realised the water had disappeared so I filled it up and left the blowers on hot until the water was flowing through and back into the header tank I drove the car earlier it was spluttering when boosting and starting to over heat I opened the cap on the header tank I heard the pressure escape but there was no water circulating or in the tank I think the head gasket has gone because when its cold it boosts fine and circulates the water properly there's no water in the oil or oil in the water could the water be disappearing down the exhaust ? Any help will b appreciated cheers Matt !

You know that you should really be putting anti freeze in your Subaru it's not a kettle you knowOn a serious note it sounds like you have a Water leak of some sort or a faulty water pump,if your saying there is no mixing of your oil and water and no mayo in your header tank, fill it up and have a good look around and see where your engine fluid is leaking from.SJ.

if you have just poured water into the header tank, it's likely you airlocked it.

Try draining it completely, then do a search on here for how to refill without airlocking.

I'm pouring water into the tank on the left of the inlet and letting it circulate through until there is a constant flow and the heaters are blowing hot air the tank behind the headlight is full and so i set off for a drive and after 5 mins the tank behind the headlight begins to bubble and steam ? but the temperature doesn't always go hot and Iv noticed the blowers go cold again it's weird if it is the head gaskets is it a job I could do with the engine in and just take the bumper and lights out the front ? Cheers matt

So my best option is to drain the system and slowly fill the header tank until it is full and can't take no more then start the car with the blowers on full and keep adding water until the tank has water in and no more air is coming out the return pipe ?

As above, try to refill the system. If that doesn't work try a new cap & if it still overheats it's likely to be a water leak or HG failure. If it's HG failure the engine needs to be removed to do it. Good luck.
