As part of my quest for more ponies from my car I've been looking at decat up pipes, but have noticed that some are flexi pipes and some solid, is there any reason to buy one rather than the other.

when i Bought my car it had a japspeed slip jointed up pipe and headers, had no problems with the up pipe...touch wood, but had to have the headers welded last year.

Non flexi it is then. If I were to fit just the decat up pipe and maybe replace the panel filter for a more free flowing one, would I be ok drive as per usual until deciding on what else to do.
Basically by changing just these two parts is it going to do any harm at all.

It'll need a remap to be safe & to make the most gains from it. Personally I'd go for a full decat & uprated fuel pump with an induction kit or it's hardly worth bothering.

Dont write the flexi pipes off completely mate. I was loathed to get an up-pipe with a flexi joint, but after 3 attempts of trying to get solid up-pipes to fit properly without blowing gaskets, I really had no choice but to go for a flexi joint.
There are loads of cheap crappy flexi joints, but i managed to get hold of one that was 3 layered and its been fine so far.
Just my 2 cents worth

You are missing my point. What I'm saying is a remap is advisable to be safe & not damage your engine. If remapping I'd add the other parts at the same time as if you add them later another remap is needed. If you only want a panel filter & up pipe then it's hardly worth the expense, but it's what you are happy with that matters.
