Engine woes
Afternoon gents
I've had a bit of work done to my car recently and yesterday I went to get it mapped and ran into a problem. It started sounding terrible so they stopped the mapping session to try and find it.
Duncan Graham said he thinks it sounds like the headers or up pipe, but they only went on 150miles ago and looked to be in very good condition and I can't find any cracks.
Yesterday it was only making the noise while under load, today it is doing it on idle, although I haven't had it up to temperature.
Can anybody shed any light on what it sounds like/could be?
Regards
Kev

Yep same as mine. the 3 bolt joint kept blowing gasgets. I ended up removing the headers,up pipe and turbo. bolting the up pipe and headers together off the car. Fitting them to the car in one peice. (NOT EASY). Then sticking the turbo on the top.

Only way to get it done properly
That top bolt on the up pipe never gets tightened properly

Its very unusual for a set of GTspec 2 headers and up pipe to leak if its been fitted properly, and the three bolt flange if fitted with the supplied metal gasket will not blow normally.
The sound is difficult to diagnose as sound systems tend to change the true tone, but the source should be obvious if its exhaust related, if there are no signs of gaskets blowing (black sooty stuff) then consider the possibility of an engine mechanical problem like a bearing.
But check the exhaust out properly first including up pipe to turbo gasket and the egt blanking plug at the top of the up pipe as that could have simply come loose. or fallen out.
cheers

Apologies for the delayed response lads, haven't been online much.
Thanks for your input. I had a good look at it of the last couple of days and can't find any leaks or cracks, which isn't good.
It's going into a mechanic in the morning so will hopefully have some news tomorrow evening

To be honest I thought it sounded mechanical, but thankfully it wasn't. Headers to cylinder head gasket was the culprit. It's now running well, just waiting for Duncan to come back up and remap it on the 11th
Thanks for your input fellas
