Default Engine Build Advice (EJ205 v EJ257 block)

OK had a quick search but couldn't really find too much info. I'm just going through an engine rebuild on my Hawkeye(EJ257) following the dreaded HGF! Decided to go down the forged rod and piston route and its been discussed about going to an EJ207 block and using the existing heads. Is it fair to say this is the stronger block? Closed deck?

What about going to a 2.35?

Anyone got any advice or links I can have a read.

Thanks in advance

Adam

Depends on you're power goal, all engines are good for 450.

Not really chasing huge power (450 tops), just really reliability.

Cheers

So all blocks are ok for that power level.

I went for an ej25 , for good road power.

257 blocks are fine up to 450, ive seen plenty running up to 500 but it's hit and miss if they will last. The 207 is alot stronger but as its 2.0 your heads are only designed for a 2.5 bore size, so you would need 2.0 heads.

Hi there

Depends on your target,we are run EJ205(2.1L stroker) at 490bhp without the problem, few people running EJ205 at 500bhp+

About the sticking with EJ257 not sure,I've never been fan of the EJ257,but when is build right should be nice, speak with Alyn@AS performance he doing CDB insert for EJ257 and with this you will have EJ257 CDB

If you want to keep yours existing heads on EJ207/205 you will need them CNC'd to match yours CR(Compression ratio),I know this has been done several times in USA with great success

I'll sell you my 2.35 if you are interested. Big build by engine tuner , currently running 600bhp.

Hawk heads are designed for the 99.5 bore and are 51cc per chamber, 2.0 are 49cc, the 2.5 heads have a wider bore around the chamber so would leave a step if put on a 92mm block. they wont work, 2.0 heads on a 2.5 needs the maching.

Cheers for all the replies guys. Looks like I've managed to source a Cosworth Short Block so will be heading down that route (EJ257).

Cheers
